The 5 Best Lightweight Tactical Boots For Flexibility and Comfort

This is the list of the best lightweight tactical boots I arrived at after extensive research:

1) Under Armour Men’s Valsetz RTZ Side-Zip Tactical Boots

Astonishing Comfort

These Under Armour tactical boots came with nice lightweight features.

First, the TPU shank offered me great mid-foot support preventing me from getting injured thanks to its great reinforcement attributes that allowed me to make any movements without forcing the boot’s structure.

These awesome Under Armour tactical boots were made with the so-called “Micro G Foam”, responsible for making me feel as if I was walking on air, while also providing me support especially when I tested the boots to run around or jump.

Finally, the entire length of the boot was made with the widely known “UA Clutch-Fit Technology” which served to reinforce the boot’s endurance, while also being really flexible and lightweight. I mean, it felt like an actual second skin!

Convenient Protection

The outside of the boot was made of welded synthetic fabric which made the whole tactical boot abrasion-resistant and generally rough, something that became essential in my outdoors training sessions after a couple of weeks passed of the testing period.

Additionally, the inside of these Under Armour tactical boots was designed integrating moulded ortholite sock liners made of memory foam in the top and with a PU base. This addition ended up making the boots highly breathable, moisture resistant, lightweight and conveniently easy to wash.

These ones were made after carefully studying soldiers who told what they would like to get from the ideal pair of lightweight tactical boots.

I also really liked the huge amount of support that the shaft provided my ankles anytime I would want to do some “risky activities” in the outdoors, which is essential in the eyes of any man who got injured in this vital body part.

Protection in Tough External Conditions

In terms of durability, it’s obvious that the Rocky designers and engineers dropped some serious knowledge when conceptualizing these boots.

To begin with, they were made with a combination of quality leather, rubber, and fabric, which not only gave it an awesome look but it also presented a great combination for achieving a lightweight experience.

These Rocky tactical boots came with rubber outsoles that provided me superior traction, preventing slides and falls while in action, making them one of the more secure tactical boots I’ve ever tested in my entire life.

The 3 Features I Found Are Essential For The Best Lightweight Tactical Boots

1) Comfortable and Lightweight

I’ve seen that most tactical boots manufacturers tend to make their products bulky and uncomfortable by adding features to boots that aren’t necessarily “essential”. This becomes the main root cause of tactical boots being inflexible which makes you end up feeling like you were carrying heavy chains on your legs.

My honest answer to this problem would be to keep your features simple.

Unless you’re going to fight a war, choose your tactical boots based on their weight, design, and materials used. You can choose a lightweight and flexible leather tactical boot, over the hard and heavyweight variants.

Design-wise, you can go for cushioned footbeds and top-quality midsoles that will give you a comfortable sensation when walking which in my experience is essential for most tactical boots users.

2) Endurance

Tactical boots are expected to be made for extreme situations and should be able to handle rough and tough environments.

However, most people I’ve met who use tactical boots regularly, tell me that the most frustrating thing about them is their endurance and durability problems.

Here again, the materials used play an important role, as tactical boots made from good quality materials will pass the test of time and be your loyal friend for years and years! It’s not only about the outer leather or polyester material, but also the adhesives used, and the actual construction process utilised to build the boots.

From my own personal experience, I think it’s best to invest in boots made from known brands as these organisations are famous for following traditional production techniques while using modern equipment, creating the most durable tactical boots in the market.

I mean, if you’re investing in something that you intend to use for years, better get the best out there.

3) Acceptable Durability

Durability is in the heart and soul of every purchase you’ll make in your entire life. And it’s also important when getting a pair of lightweight tactical boots.

The problem is that there are many of these boots made of good leather but that have severe design flaws. Tactical boots with these kinds of flaws tend to be damaged earlier than properly engineered ones. This not only affects the lifespan of the boots itself but also dangers your walking posture, leg structure and create stress on your ankles and knees.

It doesn’t matter if you bought the tactical boot with the best quality material, a bad design will ruin the boot sooner or later. Shoe designing is more like a combination of arts and engineering which have a huge impact on the durability of the boots.

From the kind of stitching method used to the shape of the sole to the actual construction process, there are many aspects to proper shoe designing. Hence it becomes necessary to check the design and materials used on the tactical boots before buying.

Lucky for you, I’ve already done this in the testing process.

The Testing Process I Used To Find The 5 Best Lightweight Tactical Boots1

I found a lot of manufacturers that claim to test their boots in foolproof lab tests. These tests do deceive the end user because when he puts these boots to use in real-life conditions, most of them fail.

I’m not a believer of other people’s results until I’ve tested them myself. I need to convince myself first before I advise someone else.

So, I’ve taken the time to test each and every tactical boot in extreme external conditions such as water, rocks climbing, trekking, mountaineering, hunting, etc. I’ve also indulged in activities which require momentum and mobility to test how comfortable these boots actually are in real-life situations.

The weight factor is also taken into the tests to give you a more coherent and clear idea on these tactical boots.

So.. you can be assured that these are tested through human experience on the ground and not by machines in a lab!

Tactical Boots Can Be Comfortable

Many users have found a lot of features in good ol’ tactical boots, but there’s also a negative perception of them being heavy and bulky, and definitely not comfortable at all.

Tactical boots are not a universal product but a concept of footwear.

They can be molded to personal preferences. So, the “heavy and bulky” complaint is nothing but a myth. You can get a lot of variety in the market, and if you select the right pair of boots you’ll certainly be comfortable while using them.

That’s why I tried to debunk this by finding the best lightweight tactical boots and I hope it will help you to make a better choice.

  1. The tactical boot is a special category of boot that is designed from the ground up to provide a high level of performance and protection for your feet in challenging environments and tough conditions. These combat boots needed to be durable enough to stand up to the intense wear and tear of active duty, while at the same time giving the wearer’s feet and ankles enough flexibility.

  4. This is my fourth pair of Bates Tactical boots! Every pair fits perfectly! The last pair purchased were very comfortable right out of the box! No breaking in required! If you are contemplating purchasing a pair of tactical, military-style boots for daily or work wear, it is one of the best choices.

  5. I just got Smith & Wesson boots, and they fit, which is a challenge for my wide feet. Bottom sole is tough and resists wear, tho sides are soft which can get nicked by use but overall keeps weight down. Solid internal sole keep feet comfortable. Overall weight is low which keeps boot fatigue at bay. Waterproof from 2-3 lace from the bottom while zipper is waterproof up to the top. Great buy would recommend to anyone searching for a reliable boot.

  6. Bates women’s boots arrived in perfect condition and on time. I’m a fairly accurate size 7 in almost all brands of shoes. (Occasionally a shoe is too tight and a 7 1/2 will do). I ordered a size 7 and they go well with thick boot socks. They weren’t tight or uncomfortable, but there wasn’t much room to maneuver. This is the perfect fit for me, but if you’re someone who likes room in the toe of the boot, maybe go half a size up. I didn’t feel any chafing in the ankle area, I did feel a bit in the heel area (but to be fair I haven’t broken them yet either). They look very well made and I will be using them for EMS work.

  7. 5.11 is my first brace of politic thrills and I’ve to say I was a little nervous about retaining them. I have read some reviews complaining about poor waterproofing but I have not had any issues. They’re comfortable and have excellent traction. They keep my bases warm and dry in the snow/ slush.
